Saudi Arabian celebrates her new freedom in bikini
A Saudi Arabian woman who was mistreated and fled from her family has shown on Twitter what she particularly enjoys about her new life in Canada. She could now exchange the niqab for a bikini - and wrote: "The biggest change in my life
Rahaf Mohammed Al-Qunun has been through a lot in her life despite her tender age of 19. A little over a year ago, the youth fled from her family in Saudi Arabia to avoid forced marriage and ill-treatment . In Thailand, the young woman's passport was taken away by embassy officials - she then barricaded herself in a hotel room until Canada granted her asylum . Since then, Al-Qunun has enjoyed its freedom in North America.
Now she published before and after pictures that show how much her life had changed. "From the compulsion to wear black scarves and being controlled by men to freedom."
Critics etch: "They have become cheap goods"
But not all Twitter users like this new lifestyle of the young woman. There are many critics who mostly express their displeasure with the posting of Al-Qunun in Arabic. "The difference is that you have become a cheap commodity that men enjoy, and that commodity expires and expires - until it is thrown in the trash," writes a man. Some accuse her of equating freedom with nudity.
Admirers rave: "You are an inspiration for many, Rahaf"
But most of the reactions are positive: the courage of the young woman is praised. "You are an inspiration for many, Rahaf. Thank you for showing women who are forced into the Nihab that there is hope, ”writes a Twitter user who calls herself Safiya. "You embody what the world needs," writes a male user.
