Watch this space. The new Chief Engineer is getting up to speed

Since 2018, it has been sailing across the Atlantic without a crew

As reported by the Irish Coast Guard, the ten-man crew of the "MV Alta" had been rescued by the US Coast Guard in a storm in September 2018, southeast of the Bermuda Triangle - since then the Tanzanian cargo ship has been driving unmanned across the Atlantic.

Storm depression Dennis, which has raged over Ireland and Great Britain in the past few days, finally drove the "MV Alta" onto the cliffs in front of the small coastal village of Ballycotton. A one and a half year odyssey ended for the ship.

For the Irish, this is only the beginning of the trouble. They now have to take care that the ghost ship is not possibly dirty by an oil leak or the like, and the huge, rusty steel structure is scrapped.

According to " The Journal ", scientists commissioned by the city of Cork have taken a look at the site and have not yet found any damage. A specialist is due to visit the wreck on Tuesday morning, assess the situation and take the first steps to remove it.

But first of all there is astonishment, the small village of Ballycotton awaits numerous onlookers who want to take a look at the stranded freighter. John Tattan of the local lifesaving company told The Irish Examiner: “You only see such a beach thing once in your life. I've never seen anything like it before. Huge and deserted.
