US Congress accuses Boeing and oversight of insufficient review

According to the US Congress, the 737 Max has already been "ruined" in its development. After two crashes with hundreds of deaths, the jet is still banned from flying.

About a year after the second Boeing 737 Max crash, within a few months , a Congressional committee of inquiry has made serious allegations against the aircraft manufacturer and the FAA. The 737 Max's review was "grossly inadequate," the committee's preliminary investigation report said. The FAA had failed to fulfill its duty to identify critical safety issues related to the certification of the aircraft.

The 737 Max was therefore already "ruined" in its development due to technical errors and a lack of transparency towards supervisors and customers. The report also says that Boeing has obscured information on the operation of the aircraft. The company said on request that it had cooperated extensively in the investigation and wanted to check the results.

Boeing's 737 Max was banned from flying in mid-March 2019 after a total of 346 deaths worldwide . The supervisory authorities decide whether and when it may take off again. The decisive cause of the accidents is a faulty automatic control of the aircraft.

The group is accused of rushing to market the 737 Max in competition with its European rival Airbus and neglecting its safety. Boeing denies this, but has admitted mistakes and glitches. In February it became known that foreign bodies were found in the fuel tanks of some machines during maintenance work
