US election campaign: Biden starts a frontal attack against Buttigieg

The US Democratic primary campaign is picking up speed. Before the next vote in New Hampshire, the promising candidates competed again in a TV debate.
Washington (AP) - Less than a week after Pete Buttigieg's strong cut in the first area code for the Democratic presidential candidacy, former US Vice President Joe Biden directly attacks the young ex-mayor.

In a video clip, Biden highlighted his political successes as vice-president of the then President Barack Obamas on Saturday and portrayed Buttigieg as an inexperienced local politician. So far, Biden and other democratic presidential applicants had been reluctant to bite negative advertising about each other.

While Biden (77) helped boost the economy and solve international crises, Buttigieg (38), as Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, took care of "decorative lanterns" and "revitalizing sidewalks," the clip said , Biden's successes are accompanied in the video with dramatic music, Buttigieg's with childish music.
Buttigieg's spokesman Chris Meagher said on Twitter that it was his success in reviving a tumbling city and his experience as a former soldier that made him a good president. Biden's new video only underlines how badly his campaign is doing, he continued.

The moderate candidate Buttigieg surprisingly emerged as the winner in the Iowa state code last Monday, just ahead of leftist Senator Bernie Sanders. The Biden, which is also considered moderate, and which has long been in the lead in national surveys, came in a disappointing fourth place. Buttigieg is also given good chances in New Hampshire, where voting will take place on Tuesday. Biden had already criticized the former mayor's lack of experience during a TV debate on Saturday night.
