Shortly before his departure from Davos on Wednesday, Donald Trump fired a few warning shots against the European Union. It is now time to deal with unfair trade relations with Europe, the US president told journalists.

If the EU does not soon agree on a new trade agreement with the USA, new "very high" punitive tariffs on the import of cars and other goods are threatened.

There were signs of relaxation

Many observers are surprised that Trump is risking a new trade dispute before the American presidential election. Finally, he had just agreed with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron not to let the dispute over the digital tax and any retaliation duties escalate.
