I am 71 years old and feel very fit. I feel like I have lived many life times at this point. I was married young, at 23 with 2 now adult children. I am now single, but committed to finding wonderful woman. So much for the basics.
As a young married man I pursued a career in sales as an agent and supervisor with and New England Life Insurance company for 10 years. Later in another sales positions. Going back 10 years I changed hats and took a JOB as a program aid and from time to time supervisor. This at a very large homeless shelter with close to 400 client. Though I had no resume to qualify me, I was hired right away.
The experience was both challenging, enriching and saddening. I looked forward each day given the opportunity to show respect, compassion and to be in relationship with the clients…the homeless men and women. I was always on time and very, very seldom missed a day.
Today work from home counseling and offering solution to Americans in debt. I speak to dozens of American every week, a good percentage tell me how they are struggling to pay for essentials like food, utility bills rent or mortgage, car related payment, health insurance you get it. Many find their pay check cut or out of work because the company move out of state or country. Having worked at a large homeless shelter I saw first had the effect of that burden of debt had on our families.
In the next 5- 10 years technology will automate manual labor with computers and robotic machines. Is Finding a job as a blue collar worker or white collar working is going to be very difficult to find. Some what is the answer?
Before the Industrial Revolution there were thousands if not millions who ran stores, family farms, and repair businesses… just worked for themselves. They were the early entrepreneurs during a period of growth, prosperity and levels of freedom to be envied today. As I see it and as many other do too it is to start your own business. Something you dream of doing and that you are passionate about. Don’t listen to the defeatist and sure it won’t be easy. It will be yours. You put in 35 to 40 hours or longer for the boss. Move into your business over time. I meet a mother at a swap meet selling hand made soap and hats. She had the teenage kid working with her and was able to retire her husband from a job.
