What I learned from the pandemic was that close, personal friends I have known since childhood wouldn't hesitate to call for my imprisonment or worse if I asked a question while they felt unsafe. I learned there is no evil in history they would not have actively participated in.

I grew up in communist Poland in the 80s. Not being able to leave the country was "normal" back then, very few people were allowed to have passports.
