103. Davie Jones & The King Bees – Liza Jane

Posted by Bill Rippel on February 19, 2021 - 11:53pm

Year: 1964
Record label: Decca
Worth Today: $3,859.58*

Though credited to Davie Jones & the King Bees, “Liza Jane” was the first single of none other than pop icon David Bowie. Bowie released the single in 1964 when he was just seventeen years old. The B-side of the record was “Louie Louie Go Home” by Paul Revere and the Raiders.

Both songs on the single took just seven hours to record. The recording took place in West Hampstead, London at Decca Studios. The single sold poorly, which led to the King Bees being dropped from Decca. There were a few-hundred extra copies of “Liza Jane,” but they were thrown away by producer Leslie Conn’s mother, making “Liza Jane” extra rare.
