The Next Day was David Bowie’s twenty-fourth studio album, and it was one of his last before he died in 2016 (though there have since been some posthumous releases). It was a collaboration between long-time partner Tony Visconti and Bowie, and all of the recording sessions were done in absolute secrecy.
New York City’s The Magic Shop was the primary recording venue. The art rock album took two years to make, from 2011 to 2013. Fans of Bowie’s Heroes album will recognize the cover art, as The Next Day’s cover art is an adapted variation of the 1977 classic.
