The original A Blowin’ Session was released in 1957 on Blue Note Records. Jazz saxophonist Johnny Griffin was the composer, and he led the group on the tenor saxophone. He was joined by John Coltrane and Hank Mobley, also on the tenor sax, as well as Art Blakey on the drums, Paul Chambers on the bass, Wynton Kelly on the piano, and Lee Morgan on the trumpet.
Needless to say, A Blowin’ Session has become a classic staple for any jazz fan. On the vinyl record are five tracks, starting with “The Way You Look Tonight” and ending with “Smoke Stack (Alternative Take,” an eleven-minute bonus track.
