Johann Strauss II was nicknamed “The Waltz King.” This Austrian composer introduced the waltz to Vienna, and it became popular around the world. In 1953, the Century Symphony Orchestra covered a few of Johann Strauss II’s waltzes and released them on a vinyl album.
Record companies would regularly have up-and-coming artists provide the album art for their classical and jazz releases. What makes this album exceptional is that it was drawn by a then-unknown artist that was destined for stardom, Andy Warhol. There are only several known copies of this record in existence.
