This clear vinyl album was released in 1971. David Bowie and Dana Gillespie recorded the album at Trident Studios in London. The vinyl was given the moniker Bowpromo as it was being used to promote Bowie and Gillespie and get them a record deal. Only 500 were ever made, and Tony Defries, Bowie’s manager, pressed them himself.
Bowie’s music is on the A-side, and Gillespie’s is on the B-side. Most of the Bowie songs on this album would go on to appear on the album Hunky Dory four months later. Bowpromo was an LP, but it had two songs (“Bombers” and “Lavender Hill”) that would never appear on an actual record.
