54. Cosden Liquid Gas Horsepower Plus Special Sign

Maker: Cosden Oil & Gas Company
Original Price: $200*
Worth Today: $21,600*

The Cosden Oil & Gas Company was founded by Josh Cosden in Oklahoma. Signs from Cosden Gas are pieces of Oklahoma history, so the largest of the signs, measuring six feet, sell for tens of thousands of dollars as home décor.

Josh Cosden was certainly a fascinating figure. He was born in 1881 and, during his lifetime, he earned and wasted two fortunes. He started as a sales clerk and moved to Oklahoma to start a life in the oil industry. Somehow, this gamble worked. When he lost his oil fortune in 1925, he gained it back by investing in oil fields in West Texas.
