“Hand in Glove” is a sad song about a relationship going downhill. The Smiths recorded and released the single in 1983 on Rough Trade, which was an indie label. Morrissey and Johnny Marr wrote “Hand in Glove.” It hit #3 on the indie charts in the UK, but it didn’t perform as well on the Singles Chart, reaching #124.
“Hand in Glove” has become a pricey vinyl. Morrisey claimed, later on, that he didn’t like his vocals on the track. He re-recorded them, so the original first-recorded vinyl version of “Hand in Glove” is quite rare. It was recorded in Strawberry, Stockport, England for a cost of $300 (which The Smiths paid on their own).
