Bitwise CIO Predicts Mega Rally as Institutional Crypto FOMO Hits Historic Highs

Bitwise CIO Predicts Mega Rally as Institutional Crypto FOMO Hits Historic Highs

Institutional sentiment toward crypto is “the most bullish I’ve ever seen,” says Bitwise’s CIO, who calls this “arguably the best time in history to invest.”

Bitwise: Institutional Money Is Flooding In—Crypto’s Next Leg Up Is Near

Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer at Bitwise Asset Management, believes the current state of the crypto market presents a major opportunity for investors. “I smell opportunity. There is a fascinating dichotomy in crypto right now between institutional and retail investors,” he stated earlier this week. While retail sentiment is at historic lows, institutions are aggressively investing in bitcoin, Hougan explained, emphasizing:

Institutional sentiment towards crypto is the most bullish I’ve ever seen.

He pointed to record inflows into bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and a dramatic shift in Washington’s stance toward crypto. “When investment professionals look at crypto today, they see this: Institutional capital is allocating to the space in record amounts via ETFs, and Washington has gone from being one of crypto’s biggest threats to one of its biggest champions,” the Bitwise executive detailed.

With increasing demand and limited new supply, Hougan sees strong upward pressure on BTC prices. He opined:

It doesn’t take a genius to think that, over time, this supply/demand dynamic will drive prices to new all-time highs.

Despite bitcoin’s 95% rise over the past year, retail investors remain discouraged due to the underperformance of altcoins, Hougan described. He believes this negativity is misplaced, stating: “Things we only dreamed of a year ago—like nation-states adopting strategic bitcoin reserves—now seem somewhere between possible and imminent. And the biggest risks to crypto, like government bans or legal threats to software developers, are distant nightmares.” He argues that now is a prime moment to invest, stating:

From a risk-adjusted perspective, it is arguably the best time in history to invest in crypto.

While altcoins have struggled, he remains optimistic about their long-term potential, attributing past stagnation to regulatory uncertainty. “But long-term, I think the setup for altcoins is stronger than at any point in history,” the Bitwise investment chief said.

Regulatory clarity and institutional acceptance are beginning to reshape the altcoin market. Hougan sees signs of progress in stablecoin growth and major firms embracing blockchain. “Today, the largest institutions in the world feel safe building on crypto, which will bring defi applications to the masses,” Hougan explained. He expects significant expansion in the altcoin sector soon. “In a year or two, my guess is that you’re not going to have to squint to see the transformation in altcoins; the impact will be self-evident. And overwhelming,” he stressed. Given the divergence in sentiment, Hougan sees an opportunity for those willing to look beyond short-term struggles. “Retail sentiment is bad in crypto right now, and to me, that signals opportunity,” he concluded.
