The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is seeking public assistance in reducing waste and fraud. Tesla and Spacex CEO Elon Musk has actively promoted the initiative, emphasizing the urgency of government spending reforms.

On Feb. 17, DOGE posted on social media platform X, stating: “DOGE is looking for help from the general public! Please DM insight for reducing waste, fraud, and abuse, along with any helpful insights or awesome ideas, to the relevant DOGE affiliates (found on the Affiliates tab) … We will add more affiliates over time.” Musk also commented on the initiative, writing:

Please DM the DOGE handles to report government waste and fraud.

DOGE, established by President Donald Trump and led by Elon Musk, aims to cut federal spending by up to $2 trillion by July 4, 2026. Though not a Cabinet-level department, it operates as a temporary entity within the Executive Office of the President. Since its inception, DOGE has conducted audits, streamlined bureaucracy, and promoted transparency in federal agencies. It has collaborated with various departments to curb financial mismanagement and improve the use of taxpayer funds. Musk stated on X: “DOGE is now a real part of the government and accomplishing a lot!”

On Feb. 17, Musk also made a broader statement about government spending, warning:

America is going BANKRUPT from EXTREME levels of government spending. Either radical action is taken or we’re toast.

Previously, on Feb. 13, Musk warned of potential financial collapse, writing: “Failure to address this will absolutely bankrupt America!” His comment was in response to a post highlighting that U.S. national debt interest payments had reached a record $1.17 trillion in the past year, doubling in just four years. The post also noted that the government now spends more on interest than on national defense, crediting Musk and DOGE for their efforts in addressing the crisis. The initiative continues to gain traction, with DOGE and its affiliates pushing for further public engagement to curb government waste and inefficiency.
