After a French vineyard was uprooted in 1945, only 600 bottles were produced by Domaine de la Romanee-Conti. Two of these bottles were sold by Sotheby’s and both broke records for the highest price fetched for a bottle of wine at auction. The first was $496,000 and the second $558,000.

Originally they were expected to sell for around $20,000 to $30,000 each, but they surpassed expectations by far. There were a total of 100 bottles from the maker, which collectively sold for $7.3 million. That is certainly worth a toast!
It’s a well-established fact that old wine can be a very lucrative enterprise. Celebrities and millionaires across the globe often invest in wine sellers and stock them to the hilt with expensive and rare bottles. Not only is it a sign of wealth, it’s impressive at a dinner party.
