Maker: Macallan
Original Price: $20,000*
Worth Today: $1.1 Million*
We’ve all heard of expensive wine and whiskey, but this bottle takes it to another level. The Macallan 1926 whisky matured for 60 years in Sherry casks and was released in 1986 for $27,600. Of these bottles, a few were set aside for artists to paint, twelve of which were hand-painted by British pop artist Peter Blake and one by Irish artist Michael Dillon.

While many of the bottles have sold for very large sums of money at auction, the Michael Dillon bottle is the record-breaker. At an auction at Christie’s in London the bottle sold for a staggering $1.52 million including buyer’s premium.
Let’s face it, the original bottle wasn’t exactly cheap to start with, so it’s likely that connoisseurs held onto them – at least until a special occasion. Having an artist get involved certainly adds to the value, but could anyone have predicted just how much the price would rise? You can’t pick up a whiskey like this at Walmart.
