Breyer Horses is a horse-model-making company, and the store hand-paints all of its realistic, life-like models. One of the most valuable Breyer Horses is the “Alborozo” model, a dappled, sabino. The mold debuted in 2008 at BreyerFest, a Breyer Horses convention, as an exclusive, limited-edition mold.

After the 2008 introduction, Breyer destroyed the Alborozo’s mold so that it could never be repeated. When the sculpture went up at auction, one BreyerFest attendee said that the atmosphere felt “electric.” The bidding for the sculpture was very intense, but the final number settled at $22,000. Proceeds of the sales were donated to charities like PATH, 4H East, and Old Friends, among others.
