Founded by John Hubley, the Hubley Manufacturing Company has been around since 1894. The company carves iron toys, bookends, and doorstops. It also makes zinc alloy and plastic toys, which sell for big money on vintage toy markets. However, some pieces, like this Hubley Cast-Iron Giraffe Doorstop, will net even more money.

The Giraffe has the marking “425, Cast in USA.” It is an unusual doorstop, but that just adds to its value. The doorstop stands 10.5” x 5.75” and was carved right in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The doorstop sold for $11,000 at auction. The high price was due to its excellent condition. Other Hubleys, with damages such as rust and paint loss, net only $200-$300.
