When you think of a romantic gift, you probably picture chocolate, roses, and a heartwarming card. Multi-platinum rapper Jay-Z took romantic gift-giving to a whole new level when he purchased a private island for his wife, Beyonce.

The 12.5-acre island, located in the Florida Keys, was the rapper’s present to his wife for her twenty-ninth birthday in 2010. He totally outdid his present from 2009, a platinum-covered cellphone that cost $24,000. The Florida Keys hideaway is, as one tabloid called it, one of the most “extravagant celebrity gifts” of all time. Three years later, the music power-couple would buy another private island, this time in the Bahamas.
