To understand how Beatrice Borromeo’s family got so rich, you’d have to go back to the 14th century. In the 1300s, the Borromeos, a wealthy, noble family of Florentine origins, were given ownership of the Borromean Islands. They started to build elaborate gardens and homes on the islands, making them their own.

Now, the Borromeos still own the stunning northwestern Italian islands. The islands are fifty acres in total, and they bring in tons of tourists every year, as people love the picturesque setting. To get to the Borromean Islands, you have to take boats from smaller, shore-bound ports.
