Madeira is a Portuguese archipelago that has four islands, all of which are known for their subtropical climate and namesake wine. Soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t resist this island paradise, and he spent much of 2020 vacationing on Madeira with his family.

Though some reports stated that he bought a stretch of land on the tropical island, these are, so far, unconfirmed. Ronaldo definitely spent time there, posting Instagram photos of him and his family spending time exploring the island’s natural cliffs, beaches, and settlements. In addition to Ronaldo and his family, Madeira is home to nearly 300,000 people.
