The late, great John Lennon was so famous, he renamed an island after himself. Dorinish Island, which he bought for a song in 1967, was often known as “Beatle Island” because of its association with the rocker. He and his wife, Yoko Ono, got permission to construct a home on the reclusive Irish island.

Dorinish Island is located off the Clew Bay coast, and it is one of hundreds of islands of different sizes. Now, the island is uninhabited. Lennon reportedly was “besotted” with the island, and he wanted to spend his retirement there. When he was unexpectedly killed, the island was abandoned.
