Leonardo DiCaprio isn’t just one of the most famous actors of all time, he’s also a dedicated environmental activist. So, it only makes sense that his purchase of Blackadore Caye would also have an eco-friendly ulterior motive. The Bahamian island has been through a lot—mass deforestation and damage to its wildlife population and surrounding coral reefs.

The Paramount star stepped in to save Blackadore Caye, shelling out several million for the island. He plans to rehabilitate it and turn it into an eco-friendly resort, which will not only house bungalows and villas, but also a research facility. The research facility will be dedicated to helping this beautiful little paradise return to its former glory.
