Bacardi, one of the largest family-owned spirit companies in existence, has netted the Bacardi empire $19 million. Booze dynasties, like Bacardi, own $70 billion of the world’s wealth and, if you’ve been following the news, you know that these alcohol billionaires spend their money on some wild stuff.

That includes islands. The Bacardi family owns islands near Grenada, some of which they use as distilleries for their rum. Bacardi’s heritage is deeply entrenched with sunny, tropical paradises. Cuba is the island on which they have the strongest presence, and, as the family said, they’ll “survive in Cuba” as long as “the coconut palm exists.”
