Location: Dino Island, off of Calabria, Italy
Purchased: $5.79 million*
Current Value: $51.61 million*
Gianni Agnelli, the former principal shareholder of the automaking giant Fiat, bought Dino Island near Calabria in 1962. At the time, he paid 50 million lira ($5.79 million) for it. Adjusting for inflation, that works out to a value of around $51.61 million. The beautiful island is located in the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The 120-acre island gets its name from either the Italian word aedina, which means temple, or dino, a Greek word that means “vortex.” Agnelli originally purchased the island with the intent of turning it into an international vacation hotspot. That never happened, and the contract of sale for Dino Island was nullified in 2014.
