The Afuhaamango family owns Kenutu, an island that is part of the Vava’u Islands. They’ve owned the island for centuries, ever since the King of Tonga gifted the noble family the island as a signal of his gratitude for their help in winning many battles. The island has remained privately-owned ever since.

Currently, Kenutu is uninhabited, but it is said that locals from nearby islands in Vava’u visit Kenutu from time to time. According to the legends of Tonga, Vava’u was created by Maui, a trickster god. Maui also created Tongatapu, putting more effort into that island than Vava’u.
