Tata Crocombe, the managing director of Rarotongan, owned and operated one of the most beautiful resorts in the world, up until 2020. Located on Akitua, the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort & Spa had a five-star hotel with luxury bungalows, a bar, and a restaurant.

Akitua is known for its turquoise and indigo waters and sandy, white beaches. It is one of the twenty-two islands, located in the Cook Islands’ Aitutaki atoll. In the spring of 2020, Crocombe announced that he would be closing Aitutaki, along with two other resorts. Crocombe bought Akitua in 1994, renovating it and turning it into a luxurious retreat.
