Academic and psychiatrist Henry Jarecki was born in Poland in 1933. He now is a part-time resident of both Rye, New York and the British Virgin Islands. Jareckie is an honorary Belonger of the British Virgin Islands, as he owns two islands within that archipelago: Norman and Guana Island.

Guana Island is one of very few privately-owned islands in the Caribbean. It has seven white, sandy beaches and nearly 900 acres of tropical forest, valleys, mountains, and hills. Though Guana Island contains a small resort for Jarecki, it is mostly a nature preserve, as it has more fauna and flora than any island its size in the region, if not the world.
