Emma Capital entrepreneur Jiri Smejc is one of Europe’s best-known investors. He decided to venture into private island ownership when he purchased Velaa, located in the Maldives. After purchasing Velaa, he set up an all-inclusive luxury resort that he said “redefines the experience” of the region.

Velaa Island has forty-three private villas and two four-bedroom houses, all of which are made from both local materials and contemporary design pieces. Velaa isn’t cheap. For a one-night stay for two people, you’ll pay $3,000-$4,000. Velaa has sea views, garden cabanas, terrace pools, five upscale restaurants, a spa, and a high-end wine cellar.
