U.S. Congressman discloses 2 bizzare crypto trades

A sitting member of Congress has reported fresh exposure to cryptocurrency markets, adding both a mainstream token and a meme coin to his financial disclosures.

Rep. Michael A. Collins Jr. is a Republican representing Georgia’s 10th District. First elected in 2022, Collins has positioned himself as a pro-business conservative with a focus on transportation, small business, and agriculture.

Collins' crypto trades disclosed

According to a filing with the House Clerk’s office, Collins purchased Ethereum (ETH) on Aug. 7, in a transaction valued between $1,001 and $15,000.

Ethereum is the second-largest cryptocurrency with a market capitalization of $516 billion and is widely used for decentralized finance and tokenization projects. It recently hit a new all-time high (ATH) of $4,953.73 on Aug. 25, rising on the crypto treasury wave.

Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) speaks to supporters of President Donald Trump at an event hosted by Vice President JD Vance on August 21, 2025 in Peachtree City, Georgia. Vance intends to discuss the benefits of Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill.

Just two weeks later, on Aug. 22, Collins disclosed another purchase in the same value range — this time in “ski mask dog” (SKI). With a market cap of $42 million, it is a rather lesser-known meme coin.

ETH was trading at $4,268.48 at press time, down 2% a day. SKI, on the other hand, was trading at $0.04283, up 14% a day.

The disclosure was signed by Collins on Sep. 2, 2025, in accordance with the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act, which requires members of Congress to publicly report securities and crypto transactions above $1,000 within 45 days.

More News:

Collins has reported as much as $745,000 in crypto activity since taking office in January 2023.

Collins 'strongly supports crypto'

A truck company operator, Collins is among the few Congress members who are active crypto traders. Among the other coins he has reported buying are:

  • Aerodrome

  • Velodrome Finance

  • The Graph

On March 5, 2025, Collins announced that his congressional campaign is now accepting crypto donations. He said,

"I hope that by introducing this platform, I can destigmatize the crypto industry and advance the future of global finance and innovation."

As per the crypto advocacy platform Stand With Crypto, Collins "strongly supports crypto," who has consistently supported pro-crypto legislation.
