Ethereum's Upgrade Broke Everything

Coin Bureau - Ethereum's Upgrade Broke Everything

"Bitmine is the largest Ethereum Treasury company, having stacked up more than 4.4 million ETH (so far). Driving this accumulation is company CEO Tom Lee, who’s basically Ethereum’s very own Michael Saylor. Lee has been hyper-bullish on Ethereum’s potential… but not everyone’s convinced.

A recent report by Culper Research reveals that Ethereum may be facing some serious issues, ironically caused by the Fusaka upgrade. That’s why they’re not only going short on Bitmine, but they’re bearish on Ethereum as a whole."

The video discusses a bearish report on Ethereum following its Fusaka upgrade in late 2025, which increased the network's gas limit and significantly lowered transaction fees. While some analysts viewed the subsequent surge in network activity as a sign of success, the report argues that this growth is largely driven by a massive increase in address poisoning scams, where attackers exploit low fees to send millions of fraudulent dust transactions. These cheaper fees have also negatively impacted Ethereum's tokenomics by reducing the amount of ETH burned and lowering staking yields for validators, which could potentially threaten the network's long-term security and institutional appeal. Despite these challenges and recent sell-offs by Vitalik Buterin, the video concludes that Ethereum's dominant market share in decentralised finance and real-world asset tokenisation suggests it remains a robust platform, with the current market downturn providing an opportunity for developers to address these technical issues.
