Samsung Wallet Embraces Native Stablecoins 📱

Samsung Wallet Embraces Native Stablecoins 📱

Samsung Wallet Embraces Native Stablecoins

The boundary between traditional fintech and decentralized finance continues to blur, and technology giant Samsung is taking another major step forward. At its Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22, the company revealed that Samsung Wallet will soon feature native support for stablecoins.

By embedding digital dollars directly alongside everyday payment cards, boarding passes, and digital keys, Samsung is positioning itself as one of the first major mobile phone manufacturers to bring native digital asset transfers straight out of the box to millions of consumers worldwide.

Digital Dollars in Your Pocket

During the event, Samsung showcased a wallet mock-up featuring Circle’s USDC—the second-largest stablecoin by market capitalisation globally. While Samsung has not formally confirmed an exclusive partnership with Circle, the visual preview sent a strong signal regarding the company's direction.

Speaking on stage, Lee Dinham, Product Manager at Samsung, highlighted the broader vision for the platform. He explained that Samsung Wallet will expand beyond cash and traditional savings to embrace new forms of digital value, including stablecoins, thereby enabling fast, low-cost, and trusted value transfers across smartphone devices.

Crucial Implementation Details Still Pending

Although the announcement generated substantial interest across the technology and cryptocurrency sectors, Samsung has kept specific operational details under wraps. Several key questions remain unanswered:

  • Launch Timeline: Samsung did not specify an official release date for the native stablecoin feature.
  • Blockchain Networks: The company has not yet clarified which underlying blockchains (such as Ethereum, Solana, or Polygon) will power the token transactions.
  • Custody Model: It remains unclear whether the setup will be custodial—where a third-party partner holds user funds—or non-custodial, allowing users sole ownership of their private security keys.

A Growing Pedigree in Digital Assets

This move into native stablecoins is a natural evolution rather than a sudden pivot for Samsung. The company has steadily built a comprehensive Web3 footprint over recent years:

  • 2019: Samsung integrated hardware-isolated crypto storage into Galaxy smartphones using Knox—its proprietary security architecture unlocked exclusively by PIN or biometric authentication. This vault initially supported tokens across Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tron, and Stellar.
  • 2021: The company enabled Galaxy owners to connect physical hardware cold-storage wallets, such as the Ledger Nano S, directly to the Knox vault.
  • October 2025: Samsung expanded its partnership with Coinbase, bringing direct cryptocurrency purchasing capabilities straight into Samsung Wallet for 75 million Galaxy users in the United States.

Convergence with Mainstream Financial Services

The stablecoin plan arrived alongside another major financial milestone: the launch of the Galaxy Card. Issued by Barclays on the Visa network, this is Samsung's first branded credit card in the United States, offering tailored cash-back incentives for purchases made through Samsung Wallet.

This double announcement highlights Samsung's broader strategy to build a unified financial hub on mobile devices. It also coincides with a booming global stablecoin market, where total supply sits near $310 billion amidst clearer regulatory frameworks like the GENIUS Act.

By integrating stablecoins directly into the core smartphone operating system, Samsung could significantly accelerate the real-world utility of digital currencies for everyday transactions.
