The Most Feared Disease In The World

Posted by Bobby Brown on September 17, 2025 - 1:03pm Edited 9/17 at 5:01pm

The most feared disease in the world and how to prevent it. You know, we're seeing an uptick in the rates of Alzheimer's over the past 20, 30 plus years. In fact, the next 30 years, it's estimated to almost double. And people fear this disease, not just because of the impact it has on the individual person , but more so on the burden that it puts on the family. And just the tragedy of watching your loved one slowly, slowly wither away and lose their memory and not recognize family members.

What we're understanding is that there's a progression of Alzheimer's. It starts with mild cognitive impairment, where people start to lose their memory, can't forget where they left their keys, or walk into a room and forget why you're there. And then we start to develop it into vascular dementia. And obviously, as the name implies, there's a vascular component to the dementia or the loss of memory. And then if not corrected, develops into diagnosable Alzheimer's disease. But let's start at the very beginning. You can measure this through spec scans or functional MRIs and look at the perfusion of the brain.

In the work of Dr. Daniel Amen, you can look at spec scans and look at how well perfused the brain is. And even in patients with mild cognitive impairment, there's focal ischemia, there's reduced blood flow, there's hypoxia to certain regions of the brain. Obviously, if you're not getting oxygen and nutrients into those parts of the brain, that part of the brain can't function, and we'd lose memory. And then vascular dementia, what is that? The hypoperfusion of the brain. You develop insulin resistance. You're not able to get glucose into the cell. That's the metabolic aspect. So now they have a vascular component and a metabolic aspect of dementia. And then again, if not corrected, you get Alzheimer's.

What is Alzheimer's? It's diabetes type three. It's focal ischemia. It's hypoperfusion of the brain. It's beta amyloid plaque. It's misfolding of proteins. So how do we prevent that? Well, we prevent the loss of nitric oxide production so we can adequately perfuse the brain. Nitric oxide improves glucose uptake, it improves insulin signaling. So we don't develop insulin resistance, we can get glucose into the cell. If we're perfusing all regions of the brain, we can get oxygen, nutrients, we can improve mitochondrial function, we can generate cellular ATP. And when you do that, we don't get protein misfolding. So nitric oxide is the holy grail for Alzheimer's, because it impacts every single root cause of Alzheimer's.

The lack of blood flow, the insulin resistance, the misfolding of proteins. If we optimize nitric oxide production prevent the age-related decline in nitric oxide, then we don't get hypoperfusion, we don't get focal ischemia, we don't get insulin resistance, and we don't get misfolding of proteins. So if you want to avoid the most feared disease in the world, then focus on restoring your nitric oxide production. Stop doing the things that lead to its loss of Nitric Oxide production. Start doing the things that are clinically proven to restore its production, and you won't develop Alzheimer’s.

Simon Keighley This is a fascinating breakdown of the link between nitric oxide and Alzheimer\'s. It makes so much sense when you look at it as a progression from vascular and metabolic issues. The idea of preventing it by focusing on nitric oxide production is a really hopeful and actionable takeaway.
