With recent events, there's one thing that has become very clear. We need to get resilient. This virus took us by surprise, though it was no surprise to leaders in the field of virology and functional medicine and others who had been warning us for years of the inevitable course our current lifestyle was leading.
By now, I think we are all aware that the necessary global and personal changes that are needed are not going to happen overnight, and the likelihood of another pandemic is quite high. We will be better prepared, medically and socially, and my hope is that we will also get better prepared personally.
What I am talking about is getting our bodies healthy and really strong. We have taken them for granted, putting up with inflammation, extra pounds and expanding waistlines, high blood sugar levels, insomnia and more. We have lived with our little, or big, aches and pains and sufferings, because we had other more pressing things to attend to. Changing our diet and making our health a priority was put on the back burner. Now, it has come to the forefront and it is time to get strong. We have seen how all those important things we thought were more important than our health, just came to a screeching halt, overnight.
So, what can we do to strengthen our immune system? There is certainly lots of science on specific foods and herbs that help. There are foods and fake foods that hurt. There are beliefs and attitudes and emotions that either hurt or help strengthen our immunity. There are activities, not just exercise, but movement and grounding, sunshine and clean air. Breathing deep of a variety of natural settings to draw in health-giving probiotics from nature is more helpful than most of us ever knew possible..
To start the process, it is first necessary to address the current state of our bodies. If we have an old, neglected house and decide to fix it up, we don't address the add-ons - the paint, the decorations, the furnishings first. We address the core - the bones of the house, the structure, mold, asbestos, etc. We clean up the toxins and mend the holes first. And this is what we need to address first in the body. We need to clean out the toxins, and strengthen the liver, so it can handle a good detoxification. This needs to be done correctly, not simply taking a supplement. The two areas that need to be addressed for any natural healing are detoxification and nourishment. We have to detox and nourish, truly nourish. Get the bad out and put the good in.
