Tens of thousands of students have raised debts or applied for government aid in recent months. That is in a letter from the Ministry of Education to the Education Committee of the Bundestag. Since May, more than 22,000 applications for student loans totaling EUR 641.6 million have been submitted to the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). The Ministry had launched a Corona emergency aid program for students. Emergency aid was applied for around 82,000 times in June, but only around half of the applications were approved.
