For months, artificial intelligence power users faced a subtle yet persistent friction point: deciding whether a task belonged in a standard chat window or inside a dedicated agentic workspace. Anthropic is putting an end to that dilemma.
In a major consolidation of its flagship platform, Anthropic is retiring its Claude Cowork brand and folding all of its underlying agentic capabilities directly into the standard Claude interface. Alongside this structural change, the company has announced the beta launches of Claude Docs and Claude Slides, alongside a deeper integration of Claude Design.
This shift marks a decisive evolution in AI interface design. Instead of forcing human users to categorise their workflows beforehand, Claude will now dynamically determine the required depth of autonomy based on the prompt provided.
Claude Cowork and chat are now one Claude
Until now, navigating Claude required selecting between a conversational interface and Cowork—an agentic mode launched in early 2026 designed to handle longer-running, complex assignments. Users selected Cowork via a toggle below the input bar or through dedicated desktop and browser extension entry points.
Under the new unified model, that explicit toggle is disappearing.
Beginning with a gradual rollout across web, desktop, and mobile platforms, Claude will automatically adapt to the scope of a user’s request:
For existing enterprise and individual subscribers, Anthropic emphasises that no historical work will be lost. Saved chats, project folders, custom skills, and system connectors built under Cowork will seamlessly transition into the main Claude workspace.
While software developers working in terminal environments will continue using Claude Code as a standalone tool, general productivity users will now interact with a single, streamlined Claude experience.
Alongside the unified chat interface, Anthropic is addressing another major friction point in generative AI: moving from raw text generation to structured, collaborative deliverables.
Rather than simply generating static text blocks or downloadable files at the end of a session, Anthropic is introducing web-native, editable workspaces directly within the chat context.
1. Claude Docs (Beta)
Claude Docs enables real-time collaborative document creation directly within the application interface. Users can prompt Claude to draft complex documents, co-author sections, ask clarifying questions, and leave contextual comments.
Collaborators can join via a single web link to edit content simultaneously. Once completed, documents can be exported directly into Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
(Note: While Anthropic previously used the term "Claude Docs" in late 2025 when rebranding its developer documentation portal, this release represents an entirely new consumer and enterprise authoring workspace.)
2. Claude Slides (Beta)
Building on the concept of living documents, Claude Slides allows users to request complete presentation decks from within a standard chat thread. Users can refine individual slides, manipulate visual layouts, and present directly from Claude via a shareable web link, or export the final deck to Microsoft PowerPoint and PDF formats.
This native feature operates independently from Claude for PowerPoint, Anthropic's existing add-in tailored for Microsoft’s desktop suite.
3. Integrated Claude Design
Previously maintained as a separate feature surface, Claude Design is now natively embedded into any conversation thread. Users can generate tailored graphics, one-page summary visuals, or custom diagrams, and adjust visual components through simple natural language feedback.

To illustrate how these unified capabilities operate together, consider a standard enterprise weekly reporting scenario:
This product consolidation carries significant industry context. When Anthropic initially introduced Cowork as a research preview on 12 January 2026, it was positioned as "Claude Code for the rest of your work." It quickly demonstrated how general-purpose AI agents could perform multi-step administrative tasks traditionally reserved for specialised software platforms.
Throughout mid-2026, market analysts highlighted how agentic capabilities were reshaping software expectations—a phenomenon dubbed by market commentators as the "SaaSpocalypse." Fears mounted that autonomous AI tools could displace legacy SaaS platforms by directly managing cross-application workflows.
By folding Cowork's agentic engine directly into the main chat window, Anthropic is accelerating this trend. Rather than treating AI agents as specialised software tools that require deliberate setup, agentic execution is becoming the baseline expectation for every interaction.
Granting an AI system the freedom to run multi-step tasks across corporate networks raises obvious security and oversight considerations. Anthropic has retained strict governance options within the consolidated platform:
The unified Claude interface, alongside the beta releases of Claude Docs and Claude Slides, is rolling out gradually to Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers across web, desktop, and mobile applications.
Access for Claude Team, Enterprise, and Free tier accounts will follow in subsequent rollout phases. No manual updates or data migrations are required on the user's end.
By removing the boundary between asking a question and delegating a complex project, Anthropic is taking a major step toward making autonomous AI workflows intuitive, accessible, and completely frictionless.
