The landscape of personal finance is undergoing a rapid evolution, and cryptocurrency exchange Kraken is leading the charge toward seamless integration between digital assets and traditional banking. Through its payments app Krak, parent company Payward has officially launched a multi-asset debit card for consumers across the United States.
This rollout represents a significant milestone in Payward’s strategic vision to build a comprehensive financial suite that bridges the gap between decentralized finance and everyday spending.
The newly launched Krak debit card allows US users to spend both fiat currency and cryptocurrency directly from their accounts. Supporting over 600 distinct assets and currencies, the card automatically converts holdings into US dollars at the exact moment a transaction takes place.
One of the stand-out features of the Krak card is its flexible balance management. Cardholders can customise their spending sequence, instructing the card to draw from specific asset balances in a designated order during a single purchase. Whether you prefer to spend stablecoins first, followed by Bitcoin or traditional cash, the choice remains entirely under your control.
Powered by Stripe Issuing and issued by Lead Bank on the Visa network, the card is accessible in both physical and virtual formats for eligible US customers.
As economic pressures shift consumer habits, Krak is positioning its new product as a direct alternative to traditional credit card rewards programmes.
A survey commissioned by Krak and conducted by Morning Consult highlighted a growing sentiment among consumers:
To address this demand, the Krak debit card offers up to 2% cashback paid in either US dollars or Bitcoin (BTC). Cashback rates are calculated based on the user's average asset balances held across Krak, Kraken, and Kraken Pro, incentivising customers to consolidate their wealth management within the ecosystem.
This launch builds upon proven demand across Europe, where Krak has already issued more than 135,000 multi-asset cards since debuting in the UK and European Economic Area in December 2025.
The debut of the US debit card is only one component of a broader diversification strategy by Kraken’s parent firm, Payward. Speaking at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, Payward Co-CEO Arjun Sethi outlined the company’s ambitious roadmap.
Sethi emphasised that expanding across multiple asset classes makes a financial business far less vulnerable to specific market cycles. Payward is actively incorporating banking services and tokenised real-world assets into its ecosystem, alongside recent expansions such as retail equity trading for EEA customers and pre-IPO stock allocations.
In drawing comparisons to traditional banking titans like JPMorgan, Sethi made Payward’s endgame clear: building a full-spectrum financial institution designed for the modern digital economy.
