Benefits of cinamon

Spices are not just used to flavor food, most of them have beneficial effects on the body and can even significantly improve a person's health if used regularly. One such spice is cinnamon.

Important to know

Cinnamon is rightly considered a superfood, as its regular consumption brings a number of benefits to the human body. However, not all types of cinnamon are so beneficial. Basically, there are two types of cinnamon - Chinese and Ceylon. Ceylon cinnamon has a truly positive effect on the human body, which also stands out for its specific taste and aroma.

However, in regular stores, we usually find mainly Chinese cinnamon, which can be dangerous in higher doses because it often contains coumarins, which are substances that can cause liver damage if consumed regularly. So if you decide to use the benefits of cinnamon for your body, be sure to be careful about which type you buy.

Why is cinnamon good for the body
A typical specific of cinnamon is its effect on the vascular system. Cinnamon is a so-called warming spice, which is why it is added to hot drinks and pastries - if you drink tea with cinnamon in the winter, you will probably be able to warm up faster than if you drink tea alone. However, the real benefits that cinnamon brings mainly result from regular consumption - approximately one teaspoon per day is recommended.

Effect on blood sugar
Regular consumption of cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar directly through its presence. It is therefore highly recommended for people with diabetes or those predisposed to the disease.

Lowering cholesterol levels
In addition to sugar, consuming cinnamon can also have a very positive effect on cholesterol levels in the body. As with sugar, however, dosage is very important in this case. Although Ceylon cinnamon does not contain dangerous substances that can damage internal organs, it is possible to overdose on it and cause a swing in the level of substances in the blood to the opposite side, i.e. to a deficiency.

Acts as an antioxidant
Antioxidants are important for both physical and mental health and help the body prevent problems associated with the deterioration of brain function (they act as a prevention for some types of dementia). At the same time, they have an anti-inflammatory effect, so they help the body regenerate problems better and faster and promote healing.

Reduces the risk of serious diseases
Ceylon cinnamon contains a whole spectrum of beneficial substances that affect virtually every part of the body. It has been shown to slow down the signs of aging and be beneficial in the treatment of cancer.

Simon Keighley Interesting read, Margaret - I’ve always loved using cinnamon for its flavour, but I didn’t realize how many health benefits it actually offers — especially its impact on blood sugar and cholesterol levels. It’s also important to know the difference between Ceylon and Chinese cinnamon, since not all cinnamon is created equal. Definitely makes me want to be more mindful about the type I buy. Great info, thanks.
