Demonstration in Praha

Posted by M H on October 19, 2020 - 5:13pm

Yesterday 18th October 2020 was a big demonstration in Praha, capital of Czechia.
In the Heart of Europe and on one of the really symbolical places for our history - Old Town Square with the famous astronomical clock.

Until now I read a lot of different opinions and protests online but in the streets during everday life people were disciplined and mute. The limitations could be considered a "half lockdown" - people in jobs functioning but all schools closed with exception of kindergardens. Masks outside not obligatory yet but in public transport, inside oficial buildings etc. must be used. Museum, theatres, concerts - everything stopped.

In the demonstrations on Sunday 18th Oct. football rowdies also took part and police called special troops on horses, brought water guns etc. The demonstration was officially announced and not forbidden.
I bring you some photos from this demostration. Over 2 thousand people took part, the rowdies were minority. Several people and policemen were injured but fortunately nobody seriously.

One of our alternative servers wrote:

Wash your hands. Your brain will be washed by Czech TV

Hopefully this will not happen.

M H It is the first really big demonstration if I am not mistaken. Until now it was relatively quiet. But they cannot avoid to show it - Old Town Square is an iconic place for the whole country and people are posting on twitter etc.

Simon Keighley Wow, I never see these demonstartions on TV, Margaret - similar demonstrations are happening over in the UK but they're rarely reported by the mainstream media. Look after yourself during lockdown.
