Linz dough recipes

Linz dough is very popular in Czechia. Linz is the capital of Upper Austria and third largest city in Austria.

The basic recipe can be used in more variants  for baking of Christmas sweets.

Even with just one type of dough, you can conjure up miracles, just add vanilla, hazelnuts, walnuts, cocoa or even grated chocolate.

Ingredients:

500 g plain flour + for sprinkling

250 g of butter 100 g powdered sugar

1 egg

lemon peel from 1 lemon

1 pinch of salt

Sift the flour, add the icing sugar and mix. Make a hole in the flour, crack the egg into it and add the butter cut into small pieces. Wash the lemon thoroughly and grate the peel on a fine grater. Knead all the ingredients for the roll quickly but thoroughly with your hands. Make a lump from the finished dough, wrap it in foil and store it in the refrigerator for at least an hour, but preferably until the next day.

Roll out the chilled dough on a floured rolling pin into a sheet about 3 millimeters thick. Cut out different shapes from the plate. Place them on a tray lined with baking paper and bake in an oven heated to 180°C for about 5 to 10 minutes. While they are still warm, roll them in powdered sugar.

Variants:

If you don't like to spread the cookies afterwards, try this recipe for Linz hearts with nuts.

Add grated or ground walnuts and grated high-quality dark chocolate to the basic Linz dough, mix everything in lightly, and after it has cooled, cut out hearts or other arbitrary shapes from the rolled dough. Spread them on a tray covered with baking paper and bake in an oven preheated to 160°C. Then just decorate the cooled Line hearts with nuts with chocolate glaze. Before it dries, you can add chopped nuts.

If you can stand it, don't eat the candy right away. Let it rest in the box for a few days, it will be even better!
