The Velvet Revolution (Czech: sametová revoluce) was a non-violent transition of power in what was then Czechoslovakia, occurring from 17th November to 29 December 1989. Popular demonstrations against the one-party government of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia included students and older dissidents. The result was the end of 41 years of one-party rule in Czechoslovakia, and the subsequent dismantling of the command economy and conversion to a parliamentary republic.
Today we celebrate this anniversary under lockdown.
The main events always take place on National Street - the very center of capital Praha were the crowd of students 31 years ago was stopped and attacked by communist police .
17th November is celebrated as International students day.
In 1989 Czechs remembered the 50th anniversary of a violently suppressed demonstration against Nazi occupation. Nazi authorities took drastic measures in response, closing all Czech higher education institutions, arresting more than 1,200 students, who were then sent to concentration camps, executing nine students and professors without trial on 17th November.
Event on 17th November 1989 sparkled a series of huge protests against communist regime in Czechoslovakia and led to transition from communist regime to democracy.

It haunts us with something that's hard to believe
... the previous 31 years were an ideal period for democracy. However, now, according to Klaus, the situation is beginning to deteriorate slightly. "This year's anniversary of the fall of communism in the gloomy atmosphere of today, in fact, can not be celebrated, or only nostalgically," he warned.
On the occasion of the celebration of the national day 17th November, the legendary aircraft Lockheed L-10 Electra took to the skies of the priest Paul Pola to say a prayer for human belonging together and the end of the pandemic.
