How many hours do YOU have in a day? 24 Right, just like everyone else. 1,440 Minutes, 86,400 Seconds. Sounds like a lot doesn't it? But boy how fast it can get away from you! Even with good time management skills we usually run out of time before we run out of work.
Time management is the major factor we must control if we are going to be successful in our private life or in our business. We ALL have EXACTLY the same amount of time in a day, 24 hours. Then why is it that Joe gets twice as much done than Jim does?
It's called "focusing on one thing at a time".
Multi-tasking simply does not exist in reality! The human brain can not focus completely on more than one thing at a time. Test yourself, if you try multi-tasking you will find yourself with 4-5 things started but none of them finished. That is not the smart way to run your business.
Choose Your most important project, then concentrate on completing it before starting something else. Occasionally something will come up that must be handled right now, but that is the exception rather than the rule. if you gave a person 5 projects to do and in a week of multitasking the person did not have even one of them finished, how would you feel about that?
If you went back and the person had one or perhaps two of the projects finished, you would feel better toward that person. This rule applies across ALL applications. It's not how hard you worked or how long you worked, but how much you delivered to the customer that was finished therefore usable!
It's ALL about having a plan and working that plan to completion. Anything that is not finished is not usable. Assignment not accomplished! There is no substitute for proper planning and it ALL starts with how wisely we use OUR 24 hours. Why are you not moving forward? Moving forward means getting things DONE, FINISHED! Let's look a little closer at the possible reasons you are not moving forward:
(1) You are focusing on the wrong things or tasks.
(2) Your projects aim and goals are not clear.
(3) You think about yourself and what multiple projects can do for YOU, not your business.
(4) You overload yourself with too much information.
(5) Distractions can get the best of you.
(6) Disorganized and dysfunctional work system.
(7) You get affected by too much negativity.
(8) TOO MUCH MULTITASKING AND NOT ENOUGH SINGLE TASKING.
(9) You are too afraid of FAILING.
(10) Lack of strict rules and work ethics. (Especially if you work alone).
DWELL ON THESE REASONS, SOME OF THEM WILL APPLY TO YOU.
