4. The Beatles – Abbey Road

Posted by Bill Rippel on October 29, 2020 - 2:33am

Year: 1969
Record label: Parlophone Records
Worth Today: $4,000*

The Beatles’ Abbey Road is famous for having tracks like “Come Together,” “Here Comes the Sun” and “Octopus’s Garden” on it, but its cover artwork is also just as epic. It features all four members of the band marching across a pedestrian crossing.

Abbey Road incorporates many different genres, including rock, pop, and blues, and it also makes use of an innovative sound-filtering method: the Moog synthesizer. The Beatles used Leslie speakers when recording Abbey Road. Though Abbey Road received mixed reviews from critics, fans made it an immediate, chart-topping commercial success in the US and UK.

Many copies are in existence as it sold over 7.6 million copies in just two years. The figure continued to rise. However, if you’ve got a rare copy with the yellow and black Parlophone Records label with the catalog number PPCS 7088 on it, then it could fetch over $4,000.

Corneliu Boghian thanks for sharing Bill

Simon Keighley I have Abbey Road, Bill but I doubt it will be this rare copy - I'll check it out. I wasn't aware it received mixed reviews from the critics - I think it's a fabulous album. Thanks for sharing.
