Elon Musk has once again turned his attention to Dogecoin (DOGE), and this time, he says it’s “time.”
On Nov. 3, Musk posted a short but loaded update on X (formerly Twitter):
“It’s time."
Back in April 2021, Musk tweeted one of his most famous lines:
“SpaceX is going to put a literal Dogecoin on the literal moon.”
At the time, the post sent DOGE prices surging by nearly 30% within minutes, cementing Musk’s influence over the meme coin. A few weeks later, the SpaceX founder confirmed that his company would indeed be launching DOGE-1, a lunar mission “paid for in Dogecoin” and billed as the “first crypto in space” and the “first meme in space.”

DOGE-1 is a CubeSat mission developed by Canadian company Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC) and funded entirely in Dogecoin. The payload will ride aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, marking the first space mission fully financed with a cryptocurrency.
The mission’s launch has faced several delays but remains scheduled to take place in late 2025, according to filings with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission.
Musk’s fascination with Dogecoin began years ago, and his tweets have repeatedly moved its market. He’s called it “the people’s crypto” and joked that DOGE could become the currency of Mars. At one point, he even changed his X bio to “Former CEO of Dogecoin.”
Each time, markets responded instantly—at its 2021 peak, Dogecoin’s price rocketed over 13,000% year-to-date, briefly giving it a market capitalization above $80 billion.

Dogecoin, which started as a joke in 2013, has since become one of crypto’s most recognized assets. Its integration into Tesla merchandise payments and continued visibility through Musk’s posts have helped it outlive countless other meme coins.
Dogecoin (DOGE) is trading at $0.1656 at press time, down 9.6% in the past 24 hours and 18.5% over the past week, according to data from CoinGecko. The meme coin’s market capitalization stands at $25.1 billion, placing it tenth among all cryptocurrencies. Despite recent losses, DOGE remains up roughly 13% year-to-date, buoyed by renewed attention from Elon Musk and ongoing retail accumulation near the $0.17 support level.
