Putin Envisions Official BRICS Parliamentary Organization

Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the BRICS economic bloc will have its own official parliamentary organization in the future. Speaking at the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, Putin emphasized the importance of parliaments in promoting multilateralism and global security. He highlighted BRICS’ principles of democracy, sovereignty, and mutual respect, and called for collective efforts to overcome Western resistance.

Putin Emphasizes Parliamentary Cooperation at BRICS Forum

Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum on Thursday, emphasizing the theme “The Parliamentary Dimension of BRICS: Prospects for Strengthening Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation.” Russia is in the middle of the BRICS chairmanship.

He highlighted the importance of parliaments in promoting multilateralism, justice, and global security, aligning with BRICS principles of democracy, sovereignty, and mutual respect. Putin acknowledged BRICS’ growing influence and the critical role of parliamentary dialogue in addressing the needs of billions worldwide. According to the translation provided by the Kremlin, the Russian leader stressed:

BRICS does not have its own official parliamentary organization at this stage, but I believe that this idea will definitely be materialized somewhere down the road.

He criticized the resistance from Western elites to the new geopolitical and economic reality, describing their actions as colonialism.

The economic bloc, initially formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, has expanded to include Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as new members.

Putin called for collective parliamentary efforts to overcome these challenges. Emphasizing Russia’s BRICS Chairmanship goals, he highlighted the creation of favorable conditions for economic, investment, technological, and human capital development. He further said:

We are open to greater cooperation with all countries interested in the BRICS agenda; we are engaged in a dynamic dialogue in the BRICS Plus/Outreach format, and we are in the process of creating the Partner States category.
