The number of corona infections registered worldwide rose to over 18 million on Monday night. This comes from a count by the AFP news agency, which is based on official information from governments and authorities. Accordingly, a million new corona cases were registered within just four days. A total of 688,000 people died of Covid-19 worldwide
The US remains worst affected. There, more than 4.6 million people were infected with the novel virus, and more than 154,000 of them died. Brazil had the second most cases with more than 2.7 million infections, while India officially registered over 1.7 million cases.
The AFP count is based on official information. However, the official data probably only represent a fraction of the actual number of infections, as little is tested in many countries.
