Viral marketing has been around for decades but has recently gained popularity again due to the emergence of internet marketing. Viral marketing is similar to the other forms of marketing but differs somewhat in that the marketing material is spread in a more organic way, socially, as opposed to the traditional marketing methods associated with advertising.
Imagine you're promoting a cool product or service that helps overcome a problem; you share a riveting post about it on social media which captures huge interest with your friends, causing them to share it with their friends and so on - before you know it, your post has spread like wildfire. This exponential & cost-effective method of spreading the word and attracting visitors is known as Viral marketing.
Viral marketing can include but is not limited to: articles, blogs, tweets, social media posts, videos, emails, article directories, and podcasts.
There are a number of ways to get started with viral marketing. Here are some of them:
Write articles - articles are a great way to get traffic back to your site because of the many search engines that will pick up your content, therefore increasing your page rank and making your site more likely to show up for searchers. If you have relevant content, you could get traffic and sales just by submitting your articles to the article directories (which are growing all the time). This has been proven to help increase website traffic because of the many ways that Google looks for content.
Sharing articles on social media can be a terrific way to help drive-in traffic, especially for the average marketing guy & gal. Sharing your articles on your Facebook wall and LinkedIn can work just like a blog. Sharing articles on Twitter can be very effective and fun to do and helps you get traffic back to your site.
